BC Finance Department Receives Awards, Clean Audit

The City of Boulder City Finance Department has accomplished three impressive feats in recent weeks. The City achieved Triple Crown designation from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for our fiscal year 2020 financial reporting. The Department also received the Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award for the second consecutive year. And last week, a clean audit for FY 2022 was accepted and approved by the City Audit Review Committee.

GFOA’s Triple Crown designation recognizes governments who have received GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (or Canadian Award for Financial Reporting), Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award, and Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for fiscal year 2020. With more than 21,000 reporting agencies, only 317 governments that received the Triple Crown that year!

According to the GFOA, “to qualify, each entity must meet the high standards of all three separate award programs. Each award program recognizes governments that produce reports which communicate their financial stories in a transparent manner and meet applicable standards.”

The second honor, GFOA’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting (PAFR) recognizes Boulder City’s report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2021. Judges evaluate the PAFR based on reader appeal, how easy it is to understand, methods of distribution, creativity and more. The PAFR provides key financial information from both the budget document and financial report in an easy-to-read format for the public.  You can see the winning report here: www.bcnv.org/DocumentCenter/View/9683/PAFR-for-FY21—print-version

And finally, accounting firm HintonBurdick completed the City’s financial audit and reviewed the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the year July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022. Auditors reported clean findings on both. “Congratulations to all staff who contributed to budgets and finance reporting for this fantastic achievement,” said Taylour Tedder, City Manager. “These awards and the clean audit findings affirms the commitment of this team to financial transparency for all residents, no matter what their level of accounting acumen may be.”
