The public is invited to a sunrise ceremony Saturday to remember victims of the Oct. 1, 2017 mass killing in Las Vegas.
“Clark County and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will co-host a 1 October Sunrise Remembrance ceremony at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Clark County Government Center Amphitheater in downtown Las Vegas,” a Clark County news release said.
There will be live music from singer Sam Riddle, a minute of silence for those lost at the October 1, 2017 shooting on the Las Vegas Strip, and remarks from Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak and others, the news release said.
“Our community can be proud of how we responded to the darkness of that day and remember the outpouring of love and support we received from each other and from across the country and around the world,” Clark County Commission chairman Jim Gibson said in a statement. “It’s also important to recognize the strength and resiliency that we continue to demonstrate as a community in response to the tragedy with every passing year.”
On October 1, 2017, Stephen Paddock, 64, from Mesquite, Nevada, opened fire on the crowd attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip according to Wikipedia. From his 32nd-floor suites in the Mandalay Bay hotel, he fired more than 1,000 bullets from a 32-floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel, killing 60 people, Wikipedia said.
The Clark County Museum will display at the government center highlighting an exhibit at its facility in Henderson that explores the “community’s grief and healing process since the shooting,” the news release said.
The exhibit is entitled is “5 Years Later: Remembering 1 October & Becoming Vegas Stronger” and features letters, posters, signs, and other items from the museum’s October collection, the news release said.
The satellite exhibition will be on display at the government center through October 13, the Rotunda Gallery on the first floor of the Clark County Government Center in downtown Las Vegas, the county said.
