The largest school garden organization in the nation goes under the moniker Green Our Planet and is found in Nevada, including Clark County.
According to a news release shared by the county government, Green Our Planet was established in 2013 and over 500 schools and 200,000 students participate in the program that calls for them to utilize the curriculum they learn in school, along with conservation skills.
“The market is a great way to nurture students’ leadership capabilities and empowers them to make a difference in the world. This is the kind of experience that will foster the next Elon Musk or Greta Thunberg.” Ciara Byrne, CEO of Green Our Planet, said in the release.
The Clark County School District even held a student-led farmers market recently where produce grown from 30 school gardens throughout the district were sold. The objective of the event is to preserve that program within the school district.
Moreover, this event is being backed by Sprouts, Bank of Nevada, Clark County School District, United Way of Southern Nevada and Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick.

It’s amazing to see how the Green Our Planet Giant Student Farmers Market brings the community together for a joyful event that celebrates our young Farmpreneurs. This experience is a great way to teach students in our community essential nutrition and math skills and empower them to set up and run their own farmers market businesses.”
