Those wishing to remember 9/11 can do so by attending a memorial at the Clark County Government Center in downtown Las Vegas.

The ceremony will be held in remembrance of the World Trade Center attack that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001, with a speech from former firefighter Frank Pizarro, who survived the attack, and a performance from the Las Vegas Multiagency Honor Guard, according to a news release from the county government.

“A new generation did not experience the horror of 9/11 21 years ago,” said Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick in the release. Kirkpatrick’s office is spearheading the ceremony and she will also deliver remarks.

In addition, the event will be livestreamed on the county’s social media accounts and Clark County Television. The event will begin at 9:11 a.m. and be followed by a car show.

Kirkpatrick said, “We must ensure that this nation never forgets what transpired, for it was an inhumane attack by a terrorist organization that resulted in a significant number of deaths and injuries, prompted our entry into a new war, transformed our national air network and government defense structure, and deeply affected all Americans. Our Las Vegas economy was also profoundly affected.”

Clark County Chairman Jim Gibson will honor the firefighters who died in the attack by ringing a bell followed by a musical performance by an active-duty Nellis Air Force Base service member.

“The 9/11 attack dealt a horrible blow, directly affecting the lives of thousands of Americans in profound ways and transforming the nation. 9/11 remains part of the national consciousness and we should strive to ensure that future generations never forget what happened that day 21 years ago,” Gibson said.
