Around the nation, the debate over critical race theory has been pushed front and center as the culture war between Republicans and Democrats rages on.
Critical race theory refers to a way of looking at public issues through the lens of race and re-examining approaches to racial justice.
A recent survey shows that a majority of respondents believe that parents who oppose critical race theory in public schools should take action against if it becomes part of their children's curriculum. This survey was conducted by the Trafalgar Group, in partnership with Convention of States Action, and surveyed 1,091 likely general election voters.
Respondents are split on what sort of action to take: 27.7% support removing children from the school and 24.1% say that parents should run candidates and work to take control of the school's governing body.
Critical race theory is a common sources of debate between Republicans and Democrats. For that reason, it wasn't surprising that the results were clearly split by party, with Republicans being the most likely to support action against schools. Of GOP-aligned respondents, 71.3% support action, compared to only 38.5% of Democrats and 43.7% of independents or third-party respondents.
Convention of States Action is a grassroots political organization with over 5 million supporters across the United States. The organizations primary focus is on calling an Article V convention of the states to propose amendments to the U.S. Constitution. They promote amendments which would impose limitations on the size and scope of the federal government.
The Trafalgar Group is a public polling and market research firm. Its website states that Real Clear Politics called it the "most accurate pollster of the cycle among those firms that polled multiple Senate and governor races” this year.
Critical race theory has been a hot button issue across the nation. The Las Vegas Review Journal recently outlined the heated discussion going on in many Nevada schools, with parents often pitted against administrators. Some states are even taking action to ban the teaching of critical race theory in publicly-funded schools.
