Students heading back to college in Nevada will need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 by late fall in order to continue their coursework because of a new state-level COVID-19 vaccine mandate for college students.
The Nevada State Board of Health held an emergency meeting Aug. 20 where members voted unanimously to require students enrolled in Nevada's public colleges and universities for the spring semester to be fully vaccinated, according to The Nevada Independent.
"The Nevada State Board of Health unanimously approved a COVID-19 vaccination requirement for students in public colleges and universities effective Nov. 1, 2021," Sylvia Lazos, Justice Myron Leavitt Professor of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, wrote in an Aug. 20 tweet.
The Nevada Independent reported more than 740 colleges and universities outside the state of Nevada have implemented similar vaccine requirements.
Gov. Steve Sisolak (D-NV) already signed the emergency regulation which requires proof of vaccination for students to enroll in the spring 2022 semester, 8 News Now reported. The mandate includes students at University of Nevada, Las Vegas; University of Nevada, Reno; College of Southern Nevada; Nevada State College; Western Nevada College and Truckee Meadows Community College.
There are some allowable exceptions to the vaccine mandate, 8 News Now reported.
