American Heart Association's Top Award
Congratulations to the Henderson Fire Department which was recently honored with the American Heart Association’s Mission Lifeline Gold Plus Award for 2021. This is the highest award level presented by the Association; and HFD has been recognized with this award status for the past three years.
The Mission Lifeline Gold Plus award is given to EMS services which apply the most up-to-date evidence-based treatments for heart attacks and stroke. We are proud of the leadership provided by our Division Chief of EMS, Kim Moore and her staff, and also want to recognize all our frontline personnel who perform exceptional EMS services in Henderson twenty-four hours a day. Their combined efforts ensure that we provide the best available emergency care to our residents.
The City of Henderson is now hiring for open police officer and firefighter positions as the city continues to meet the needs of its growing population. As the second-largest city in Nevada, Henderson is seeking additional first responder personnel to staff its new police and fire stations while upholding the City’s strong commitment to public safety.
Henderson’s Police and Fire Departments seek diverse, compassionate and service-minded individuals who want to uphold Henderson’s recognition as one of the safest cities in America while making a difference in the lives of its community members.
The Henderson Fire Department is currently the only fire agency in the Las Vegas Valley to use an ongoing recruitment model. This model allows qualified candidates to apply at any time without waiting for an open recruitment period. The Henderson Police Department has already implemented this model and will continue to use it to seek qualified candidates.
The City of Henderson’s recruitment personnel will maintain a running list of qualified applicants for potential acceptance into the upcoming police or fire training academies. National Preparedness Month is observed each September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. This year’s theme is “Prepare to Protect”. When you prepare for disasters, you are protecting everyone you love.
During the month of September, the City of Henderson and FEMA want to remind residents how they can prepare by focusing on the following:
Make a Plan
Talk to friends and family about how they will communicate before, during, and after a disaster, and remind them to be sure to update the plan.
Build a Kit
Gather supplies that will last for several days after a disaster for everyone living in your household, such as food, water and medical supplies. Don't forget to consider the unique needs of each family member or pet in case of a quick evacuation.
Prepare for Disasters
In Henderson, we need to be prepared for a range of emergency events like hazmat incidents, windstorms, extreme heat, microbursts, flash floods and earthquakes. Did you know Nevada is the third most seismically active state in the country?!
Teach Youth About Preparedness
Talk to your kids about preparing for emergencies and include them the planning process. The City offers an unique youth educational program for kids called Captain Kit & the Ready Crew with resources from videos to activity book.
Mandatory fall watering restrictions are in effect through October 31st, limiting landscape watering to only three days a week. Sunday watering is never allowed. The City of Henderson has teamed up with the Las Vegas Valley Water District to patrol for water waste violations, including watering outside of the mandatory schedule.
All customers are assigned to a watering group, labeled A, B, C, D and E, that defines what day(s) of the week landscape irrigation is allowed. Watering group assignments are based on the customer's location address. Click HERE to view your assigned watering group.
Please note that watering by hand using a container, or positive shut-off nozzle on your water hose, is allowed any day of the week regardless of your assigned watering days.
