Military Aircraft Utilizing Boulder City Municipal Airport - DELAYED ONE DAY

Boulder

City of Boulder recently issued the following announcement.

Military aircraft rescheduled and will arrive on October 20.

Tuesday evening, October 12, several large military helicopters on a training mission unexpectedly landed at the Boulder City Municipal Airport. City  staff was not aware of the plan prior to the aircraft arriving, and it is unclear if the pilots were aware of the courtesy no-fly zone over residential areas in the City. We have heard from residents who were woken by the low-flying aircraft.  Boulder City supports our military using the airport, but have requested fight operations to avoid residential areas within the community. Staff are in the process of trying to determine why the incidents occurred Tuesday and asking the military for advance notification for future landings so we can make sure residents are aware. (It is not uncommon for military aircraft to land at the airport, but staff are often notified in advance.)

The staff of the Boulder City Municipal Airport is aware of the arrival of a large group of military helicopters that will occur on October 20, 2021.  Twenty-five aircraft, which include Blackhawks, Apaches and Chinooks, will stay on an overnight layover, enroute to their destination.  The aircraft are expected to arrive in groups throughout the afternoon and early evening and will depart at various times the next day, October 21.  We apologize for any disturbance this may cause near or on the airport property. We recommend parking in the new parking area on the south end of Veterans Memorial Park for those interested in viewing the arrivals/departures.

Airport Management has asked the flight coordinator for the upcoming operation to avoid flying over Boulder City residential areas.
