U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) recently toured the Southwest Carpenters Training Center and met with members of the Southwest Carpenters Union Local 1977 to discuss federal efforts to support Nevada's unions.
Rosen helped pass the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act which is designed to strengthen and support Nevada’s construction industry, according to a release from her office.
"Nevada was built by union workers, and with this new federal investment they will have the chance to build better roads and bridges, and improve safety and quality of life for all Nevadans," Rosen said, according to the release. "The bipartisan infrastructure law is expected to create 140,000 jobs and bring $4 billion to Nevada, and the Southwest Carpenters workforce training programs will ensure that Local 1977 workers are prepared to rebuild Nevada’s infrastructure for the 21st century."
The infrastructure package also includes Rosen’s bipartisan bills to provide funding to improve broadband infrastructure, boost the recovery of the tourism throughout the state and increase the electric grid's cybersecurity.
The legislation was signed into law last year and is projected to create thousands of construction jobs in Nevada.
"The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law creates opportunities for working families, and we appreciate Sen. Rosen’s efforts to bring these projects to Nevada," Brandon Morris, political coordinator for Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters Local 1977, said according to the release. "From our roads, bridges and buildings to our water and energy systems, Union Carpenters are working every day to build better cities, communities and careers across the state and region."
