In order to mitigate drunk driving during St. Patrick's Day, Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Anheuser-Busch and Uber recently collaborated on a drunk-driving prevention campaign.
Naft said the Decide to Ride program would help get drunk motorists off the road.
"When people choose to drive impaired, they put the lives of all our road users at risk, including their own," Naft said in a recent news release on ClarkyCountyNV.gov. "Thanks to this partnership, Southern Nevadans and those visiting our community will have yet another option to get home safely on St. Patrick's Day. If you drink, don't drive. Decide to ride."
The partnership was initiated in order to get party revelers home safely on St. Patrick's Day by utilizing a discount option, the release said. Those who wanted to participate in the program could use the Uber discount code DECIDETORIDEVEGAS5 for $5 off two UberX or Uber XL rides.
"MADD wants everyone to have fun on St. Patrick's Day; and to make a plan before the first drink for a non-drinking, sober driver, rideshare or public transportation," MADD National President Alex Otte said in the release. "By reminding residents and visitors of Clark County that if you drink, don't drive; this first-of-its-kind partnership will save lives and prevent traumatic injuries caused by drunk driving."
Harry Hartfield, Uber's senior manager of Public Affairs, added that drunk driving is preventable and Uber users can mitigate drunk-driving deaths on holidays known for heavy drinking.
Additionally, the campaign used ads on social media, billboards, local bars and restaurants, the release said.
