Jim Gerren is Clark County's new building official and director of the Building Department, County Manager Yolanda King said in a release from the county.

“The Clark County Building Department performs an important public safety oversight role on the Las Vegas Strip and across our community," King said. "I believe Gerren’s experience, professionalism and ability to collaborate to resolve issues position him well to lead the department at a time when community development and the department’s workload are growing fast.”

Gerren's appointment is scheduled to be ratified by the Clark County Commission on April 19.

He has been with the Building Department since 2004 and has served as assistant director since 2019. He started with the department as a fire protection engineer. He was later promoted to plan examination manager and served in that roll from 2016 to 2019. Gerren spent about 3 1/2 years in the private sector handling the day-to-day technical operations of an engineering consulting office, the release said.

“I am committed to public service and recognize that building safety and customer service go hand in hand," Gerren said. "Throughout my career, I have helped customers build the projects they want to build in a safe manner. I look forward to serving as building official and director of Clark County’s Building Department as we enter into a new era of exceptional growth and development in our community.”
