The Clark County Commemoration Committee recently held a meeting to evaluate what memorial designs they want to honor victims—along with the event—of the 2017 shooting.
The incident happened during an outdoor country concert in Las Vegas.
The meeting was held on June 29 in the Clark County Commission Chambers at the Clark County Government Center in the downtown portion of Las Vegas, a news release from the County government said. The event to be memorialized happened on Oct. 1, 2017, and the working title of the project takes its cue from the date as 1 October.
“We are getting ready to launch a process that will allow the public and professionals alike to submit ideas and creative expressions for a memorial,” Committee Chairman Tennille Pereira said in the release. “Anyone who is interested in submitting an idea is encouraged to do so, whether you live in the Las Vegas Valley or not. We want as much public participation in this process as possible to ensure we build a memorial that honors all who were affected by the tragic events of 1 October.”
Pereira is also the director of Clark County’s Vegas Strong Resiliency Center.
Committee members examined what criteria would be sought from the solicited design team in order to construct the memorial, the release said. The public can also provide input concerning the design for the memorial, as members were given a presentation to showcase a web application that was designed specifically for the public to submit their ideas for the memorial.
