Back to School: Slow Down and Watch the Road!

Schools will be back in session August 8. As our children head back to school, Boulder City Police Department wants all drivers to know that they will be out looking for speeders and distracted drivers. Police say 350-400 students use the school zones every day in Boulder City. Always be aware of your surroundings when driving—avoid changing your radio or using GPS.

Parents should remind children to be focused when walking to school (no using smartphones, watch for traffic, etc.).  U-turns are not allowed during school zone hours, and do not pass a vehicle travelling in the same direction as you in a school zone or cars stopped at a crosswalk.

Over the past few weeks, the Boulder City Public Works/Streets Division crews updated the signage around school zones, providing exact hours of when the speed limit drops to 15 miles per hour for pedestrian safety (see photo). Signs previously read “when children are present,” which created some confusion for motorists.
