If you’re thinking about continuing your education, your location shouldn’t be a roadblock. William Huffines lives in Tennessee, enrolled in our online Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy and just graduated! The ability to choose an accredited, well-respected online program like Pima Medical’s is helping him fulfill his dreams.
Here’s his story, in his own words.
“During my 18 years working as a Respiratory Therapist at the same hospital in Cookeville, TN, I always knew I wanted to get my bachelor’s degree. There were possible positions opening at the hospital requiring a bachelor’s and I became motivated to go for it. I actually started at a different school but unfortunately, they closed down early in my program. I was so thankful to find Pima Medical Institute’s Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT) program. They were very easy to work with and helped me transfer some of the classes I’d already completed.
Work life balance can be tough! I had two small children and my wife was working nights as a nurse. My schedule required me to work a week on and a week off, so my week of working 12-hour shifts was rough. But, my instructors were very engaging and did a really great job of communicating and explaining their expectations. I enjoyed the structure of the classes and I loved that so much of what I was learning I could apply on the job. It was easy for me to come up with work examples for our class discussions.
Since getting my degree, I have become the Educator of the Respiratory Therapy department and I’m currently working a five-day work week, which is wonderful. I often find when we are discussing a problem at work, I am able to refer to an assignment I did about that very issue. My work life used to help with my schoolwork and now my schoolwork is helping with my work life. I’m not in a rush, but I would like to take the next step into a lead management or director position.
I am so thankful for this opportunity! Going back to school was a dream in the making for 20 years and Pima Medical helped me fulfill that dream.”
