City of Henderson to Purchase Former Fiesta Henderson Site

The Henderson City Council today approved the purchase of the former Fiesta Henderson site from Station Casinos to develop a multi-use, indoor community sports facility.

Purchasing the property will ensure the 35-acre site is developed strategically to provide Henderson residents with recreational amenities that will be determined during future master planning sessions.

The City of Henderson plans to develop the land with a state-of-the-art multi-use, indoor community sports facility designed to revitalize the eastside of Henderson by providing indoor, year-round recreational opportunities and boost tourism through national, regional and local tournaments.

“With the continued interest in sports in our City, we have identified a need for a multi-use, indoor community sports facility and this site is a premier location for it,” said Richard Derrick, Henderson City Manager and CEO. “Once completed, we anticipate the sports facility will generate an annual economic impact of nearly $40 million.”

By investing in the property and the proposed multi-use, indoor sports facility, the City of Henderson will be able to attract additional private development opportunities that will create new jobs and increase tax revenue.

“Ideally positioned at the gateway to Henderson’s newly revitalized downtown, this site has tremendous potential to bring quality of life amenities and economic opportunities to the community,” said Mayor Debra March. “Applying the City’s planning expertise to the entire site now will ensure the highest and best possible use of the property. I’m thrilled our first investment will be a new multi-use community sports facility that is easily accessible to the youth and families of east Henderson.”

The City of Henderson is purchasing the site for $32 million largely using redevelopment funds designated for this kind of development. Remaining parcels will be sold to bring additional amenities such as restaurants and retail to help replace what the Fiesta Henderson offered.

“Station Casinos is pleased to have worked with the City of Henderson on these transactions and is happy that the land will be used in such a positive way for the Henderson community," said Scott Kreeger, President, Station Casinos.

The City of Henderson intends to complete the project’s master plan in mid-2023.
