Clark County leaders are touting the inaugural season of a professional lacrosse team playing in Las Vegas.

Ahead of the Las Vegas Desert Dogs' first home game on Dec. 16, the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign's lights were changed to match those of the team’s colors, according to a news release issued by the county. On hand for the ceremony were Clark County commissioners and leaders of the Las Vegas Desert Dogs, including CEO Mark Fine, Head Coach/General Manager Shawn Williams, players and dance team members.

“Lacrosse is an intense, fast-paced sport, one that I’m sure Las Vegans will embrace when they get to see the Las Vegas Desert Dogs in action,” County Commissioner Michael Naft said in the release. “I congratulate the Desert Dogs organization on their success and foresight in making this inaugural season a reality, and I wish them luck in their home opener on Friday. This is further proof that Las Vegas really is the ‘Greatest Arena on Earth.’”

The team’s home games will be played in Naft’s district, and fans can catch the Desert Dogs in action at Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.

“We’re excited about the Desert Dogs’ inaugural home game and season," Commissioner Justin Jones said. "It’s incredible that we have yet another professional sport to add to the menu of options available to residents and visitors to enjoy. I encourage everyone to show up and support the home team.”

Excitement ran high as the sign reflected the pro team's colors of yellow, magenta and blue.

“The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign is an iconic landmark that we’re thrilled to have decked out in our colors,” Fine said.

More information on the Desert Dogs can be found on the team's website at LasVegasDesertDogs.com or by calling 702-818-DOGS.

The Desert Dogs became the 15th team in the National Lacrosse League in June 2021, and are co-owned by Wayne Gretzky, Dustin Johnson, Steve Nash and Joe Tsai.
