In normal course, the Henderson Police Department conducts an internal investigation of all Use of Force incidents.

Henderson Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting Involving Open Barricade Subject
Henderson, Nev. – (June 20, 2024) On June 20, 2024, at approximately 9:00 am, the City of Henderson Police and Fire Departments responded to the 1800 block of Ward Drive regarding a subject identified as 33-year-old Michael Fretheim who reportedly pointed a firearm at another individual at a residence. It was further advised he then fled the residence on foot.
Officers located Fretheim nearby in the neighborhood where a short foot pursuit ensued.
Fretheim produced a firearm and continued to walk through the neighborhood while officers employed de-escalation techniques without success throughout the encounter.
Officers were then able to contain Fretheim in the area of Margarita Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard where an officer-involved shooting occurred.
Fretheim was struck by a single round of gunfire resulting in injuries; however, he remained in possession of the firearm. Efforts to de-escalate this incident continued.
SWAT and CNT arrived on scene and took over negotiations.
Fretheim was taken into custody shortly after with no additional gunshots being fired.
He was transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No officers were injured during this event.
LVMPD Air Unit assisted and LVMPD Patrol Units provided perimeter support to the Henderson Police Department during this incident.
Fretheim was booked in absentia to the Henderson Detention Center for the following charges:
2 counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon
1 count of Resist PO with Firearm
1 count of Prohibited Person Possess Firearm
1 count of Obstruct/False Statement to PO

As this is an open investigation, no further details will be released.
This is the second officer-involved shooting for 2024.
The involved Henderson Police Officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, and their name will be released after 48 hours per department policy.
