The University of Nevada, Las Vegas baseball team lost to San Diego State 15-1 in a seven-inning run-rule game on May 14 at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
This result marks a challenging outing for the Rebels, who struggled both on the mound and in the field against a strong Aztecs lineup.
San Diego State quickly took control by scoring in the first inning after Dawson Santana walked, stole third base, and scored on Zach Justice’s groundout. The Aztecs extended their lead with a four-run third inning that included doubles from Santana and Jake Jackson, as well as an RBI double by Max Farrell. UNLV managed some baserunners early but could not capitalize against SDSU starter Rohan Lettow.
The Aztecs continued to add runs throughout the middle innings. Jabin Trosky scored on another error in the fifth before San Diego State erupted for five more runs in the sixth, highlighted by Jackson’s three-run home run. Four additional runs came across for SDSU in the seventh with RBI hits from Zane Kelly and Marc Emmerman followed by Trosky’s two-run single.
UNLV avoided being shut out when Cooper Sheff doubled and later scored on Ayden Garcia’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh. Drew Barragan extended his streak of reaching base to all 50 games this season while Gunnar Myro pushed his hitting streak to 14 games. Parker Dillhoff took his fourth loss of the season after allowing five earned runs over just over three innings pitched.
Looking ahead, UNLV will play game two of its series against San Diego State on Friday evening before concluding with a Saturday afternoon matchup.
