The University of Nevada, Las Vegas softball team secured a 12-8 victory over Utah State in the Mountain West series finale on April 12 at Eller Media Stadium. With this result, the Rebels improved to a record of 24-18 overall and 11-5 in conference play, completing their second series sweep of the week.
The outcome is significant for UNLV as it demonstrates continued strong performance during conference play and highlights key contributions from several players. The Rebels’ offense was led by Presley Barnes, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs batted in. Keyannah Chavez contributed by going 2-for-4 with three runs batted in, while Rachel Cook added two hits including an RBI double. Diamond Sefe recorded two hits and two RBI, scoring twice. Bri Williams reached base four times and scored twice as well.
Yanina Sherwood earned her tenth win of the season after coming on in relief, while Lauren Fettic notched her second career save for UNLV. The game saw both teams trading leads early before Charelle Aki’s home run put UNLV ahead for good in the second inning. Additional home runs and timely hitting helped the Rebels build a lead that held up despite late scoring from Utah State.
For the series against Utah State, Cook posted a .667 batting average (4-for-6), while Aki and Sefe each hit .429 (3-for-7). Fettic pitched six innings across both games with an earned run average of 1.17, allowing only one earned run combined.
Several players extended notable streaks: Cook now has a seven-game hitting streak; Turner also holds a seven-game hitting streak along with reaching base safely in seventeen straight games; Chavez has reached base thirteen consecutive times; Williams extended her reached-base streak to thirty games.
Looking ahead, UNLV will travel to face Boise State for another Mountain West series from April 17 through April 19.
