The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) softball team defeated San Jose State 3-2 on March 14 to even their Mountain West Conference series at Spartan Softball Complex.

The win brings the Rebels’ record to 13-14 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Spartans fall to 9-16 and also hold a 1-1 conference record. The game was closely contested, with both teams exchanging leads before UNLV secured the victory in the later innings.

Diamond Sefe and Bri Williams led the Rebels’ offense. Sefe reached base in all three of her at-bats, going 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Williams went 2-for-4, extending her on-base streak to fifteen consecutive games. Lauren Fettic earned her sixth win of the season by pitching in relief for UNLV.

San Jose State took an early lead with an RBI double in the first inning. The Rebels responded in the third inning by scoring two runs on three hits, including an RBI single from Sefe. The Spartans tied the game at two runs each in the fourth inning. In the sixth inning, Sefe drew a walk and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Natalie Turner before Mantha Hatzenbeller hit her first triple of the season to give UNLV a one-run lead. Fettic closed out the game by retiring all three batters she faced in the final inning.

Other notable performances included Keyannah Chavez hitting her fourteenth double of the season, leading both her team and league in that category. Fettic pitched 3.2 innings without allowing a hit and struck out two batters out of twelve faced. Turner contributed offensively as well, going 1-for-2 with an RBI.

The Rebels and Spartans are scheduled to play a deciding game on Sunday, March 15 at noon Pacific Time at Spartan Softball Complex.
