The UNLV softball team earned the No. 2 seed for the Mountain West Softball Championships, according to a May 6 announcement. The Rebels will have a first-round bye and skip the single elimination round after finishing second in the conference with an 18-7 league record.
This marks UNLV’s second appearance at the tournament since it was reinstated in 2023. The team will face either No. 3 Nevada or No. 6 Colorado State on Thursday, May 7 at 6 p.m. Pacific Time.
In their last games of the regular season, UNLV swept in-state rival Nevada with victories of 5-3, 4-2, and a final win of 7-4 on senior day. Against Nevada all-time, UNLV holds a narrow edge with a record of 26 wins and 22 losses; they are currently on a three-game winning streak against them. In contrast, against Colorado State, UNLV has won only twice in their last three meetings but took their most recent series two games to one.
Nevada enters as the third seed with an overall record of 36-18 and is led by Madison Clark’s .466 batting average and Hannah Di Genova’s team-highs in home runs (24) and RBI (78). Pitcher Tess Bumiller leads their staff with a season ERA of 2.79 over more than one hundred innings pitched. Colorado State arrives as the sixth seed after posting an overall record of 23-27; Madi Enslinger leads their offense while Reagan Wick anchors their pitching staff.
Four Rebels received postseason recognition from Mountain West: freshman Lauren Fettic was named Pitcher of the Year—the first Rebel to do so since Christine Robinson in nearly two decades—and joined Keyannah Chavez on the All-Mountain West First Team; Diamond Sefe and Mantha Hatzenbeller were selected for Second Team honors.
Head coach Kristie Fox recently celebrated her milestone victory—her four-hundredth career win as head coach—when UNLV defeated Nevada on April 30.
