The University of Nevada, Las Vegas softball team was eliminated from the Mountain West Championship after a 5-0 loss to New Mexico in game six at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park on May 8.
This result marks the end of the season for the Rebels, who finished with a record of 31-22. The outcome is significant as it concludes their run in the conference tournament and brings their postseason hopes to a close.
Presley Barnes led UNLV offensively, going 2-for-3 with both hits being leadoff doubles. Natalie Turner also recorded a hit, while Diamond Sefe earned the team’s only walk. The Lobos took an early lead with solo home runs in both the first and second innings. They added another run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth on a triple down the right field line. In their final chance at bat, UNLV managed to get a runner on base but ended with a double play followed by a groundout.
Barnes and Turner were named to the Mountain West All-Tournament team for their performances during tournament play. Turner went 3-for-5 overall, including a home run and two stolen bases without being caught. She posted a .600 batting average through two games along with a slugging percentage of 1.200 and an on-base percentage of .714. Barnes finished her tournament performance hitting .571 (4-for-7) with two doubles and one RBI.
Bri Williams contributed two RBIs during tournament play for UNLV, while Lauren Fettic, Yanina Sherwood, and Emma Wardlaw each made appearances during games.
