The University of Nevada, Las Vegas track and field team announced on May 13 that it will compete in the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The event will take place at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, California, from Thursday, May 14 through Saturday, May 16.
The championships mark a significant opportunity for the UNLV Rebels to build on their outdoor season successes as they approach the end of the academic year. The majority of the team’s roster is set to participate in multiple events over the course of the weekend.
A total of 21 athletes from UNLV are scheduled to compete individually and as part of relay teams. Graduate senior Victoria Perrow enters ranked second in the conference for the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.32 seconds and twelfth in the 200 meters at 23.67 seconds. She is joined by junior KayVeonna Jackson, who holds seventh place in the conference for the 200 meters (23.59) and tenth for the 100 meters (11.63). Taryn Bailey aims to improve her standing in both middle-distance events after achieving a personal best at a recent meet.
Additional Rebel sprinters competing include Jayda Bushay, Gabby Goodgames, AnnaKay Maitland, Malika Mashack, Mikah Scott, Kaitlynn Webbe and Aly Winston. Redshirt freshman Jaci Wright currently sits third among conference competitors in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.43 seconds.
Distance runners Reagan Reed and Alana Sangprasit are set to race in the women’s five-thousand-meter event while Kenley Gowdy and Claire Rands join Bailey in both fifteen-hundred- and eight-hundred-meter races.
Field event entries feature sophomore Jada Lujan representing UNLV as its only high jumper this week; Kayli Middleton will compete in both long jump and triple jump competitions. In throwing events Amaya Mitchell-Howard is ranked sixth overall for hammer throw while Roxene Simpson stands fourth among discus throwers; Sophia Clark rounds out entrants with an eleventh-place ranking also in discus.
Relay teams are also positioned well: Perrow joins Jackson along with Maitland Scott on a four-by-one-hundred-meter relay squad currently ranked second (44 seconds), while Webbe anchors a four-by-four-hundred-meter group sitting fourth overall (3:39.11).
