The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) track and field team will participate in two competitions in California during the week of April 17-18. The athletes are set to compete at both the Beach Invitational and Bryan Clay Invitational.
The Beach Invitational will be held at Long Beach State’s Jack Rose Track, while the Bryan Clay Invitational is scheduled for Azusa Pacific University’s Cougar Athletics Stadium in Azusa. According to UNLV, sprinters and throwers from the team will take part in the Beach Invitational, while distance runners are expected to compete at the Bryan Clay event.
In their previous outing at the UNLV Rebel ELITE meet on April 3-4, seven members of the Rebels achieved personal bests. Victoria Perrow won first place in the 100-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 11.06 seconds, Aine McDade took first place in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:08.30, and Roxene Simpson secured first place in discus throw with a mark of 48.99 meters (160 feet, eight inches).
Several student-athletes from UNLV currently hold top ten rankings within Mountain West events this season. Perrow ranks first and KayVeonna Jackson is tied for eighth in the conference for the women’s 100-meter dash; Jackson also holds fifth place in the women’s 200 meters while Perrow is ninth. Jaci Wright stands fourth overall for her performance in the women’s 100-meter hurdles. In field events, Simpson is fourth among discus throwers; Kayli Middleton is fifth overall for triple jump; Amaya Mitchell-Howard holds sixth position for hammer throw; Sophia Clark ranks ninth among discus competitors; Kaitlynn Webbe (400m), Taryn Bailey (800m), and Gabby Goodgames (100m hurdles) each rank tenth overall.
