The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Rebels volleyball team will begin its 2026 season against Nebraska and Texas Christian University (TCU) in the Players Era Volleyball Showcase on Aug. 28 and Aug. 30 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, according to a May 8 announcement. The event will also feature Texas among the four participating teams.
The tournament is notable for bringing together top college volleyball programs and offering $1 million in name, image, and likeness opportunities for the teams involved. Organizers say this event aims to deliver an early-season atmosphere similar to post-season play while establishing storylines that could shape the upcoming season.
Head coach Malia Shoji said, “It’s an honor for our program to be invited to compete in the inaugural Players Era Elite Volleyball Championship. To say our team, staff and program are excited would be an understatement. Coming off one of the strongest spring seasons we’ve had, this group is eager for the opportunity to test itself against some of the best programs in the country. Now, we need Rebel Nation behind us. Let’s pack T-Mobile Arena and help us take on Nebraska and TCU during opening weekend. Volleyball’s incredible rise in popularity aligns perfectly with Las Vegas’ emergence as a global sports destination. Bringing those two together is going to create a special atmosphere and an event fans won’t want to miss.”
UNLV leads its all-time series against TCU with a record of 12-5; their last meeting was during the 2011 season when both were members of the Mountain West Conference before TCU joined the Big 12 Conference. This showcase marks UNLV’s first-ever matchup with Nebraska.
Players Era was founded as a subsidiary of EverWonder Studio in 2024 with goals focused on creating more equitable models for college sports by valuing players and expanding global fandom through unique events.
The showcase features doubleheaders: On day one, Nebraska faces UNLV while Texas plays TCU; on day two, Nebraska meets Texas—marking their first contest since facing off at the NCAA Championship match nearly three years ago—and UNLV takes on TCU again.
