The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) women’s tennis team defeated Air Force 4-1 on March 15 at the Cadet East Gym in Colorado Springs. The Rebels overcame an early setback in doubles play to claim their sixth consecutive victory and improve their season record to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in Mountain West Conference matches.
This match marked the first time this season that UNLV lost the doubles point, but the team responded strongly in singles competition. The result keeps UNLV undefeated in conference play while Air Force dropped to a 4-10 overall record and 1-1 in league play.
During doubles, Kaho Oyama and Sofiia Sokolvak secured a win for UNLV on court three, but Air Force won the other two matches to take a 1-0 lead. In singles action, Nikol Mircheva was first off the court with a straight-set victory over Ariana Van Houselin. Veronika Kliuch followed with another win at the top spot, defeating Abby Cotuna. Hudson Hawkins came from behind to beat Sofia Mavor, while Eszter Kis-Czako clinched the match for UNLV by overcoming Yule Kang.
Kliuch was named Rebel of the Match after rebounding from a doubles loss to win her singles match easily. She improved her individual record to 18-2 overall and remains undefeated at 11-0 in dual matches as a sophomore.
Looking ahead, UNLV will host Colorado State for its first home conference match of the season on Friday at Fertitta Tennis Complex. Doubles play is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., and admission is free.
