City of Boulder issued the following announcement on August 10.
Boulder City’s new City Manager Taylour Tedder officially takes the reins today. Mr. Tedder was selected from more than 50 candidates after a six-month national search with GovHR, an executive municipal recruiting firm. He has been in working municipal government leadership roles since January 2013.
Tedder most recently served as the Assistant City Manager in Leavenworth, KS, a suburb of Kansas City, MO with over 36,000 residents. “While the geography is much different in Southern Nevada than in the Kansas City area, Boulder City’s budget size, and all aspects of being a full-service city, are similar to the cities I’ve served,” said Mr. Tedder. “I believe the similarities allow me to hit the ground running on big-picture goals and projects without having to learn how an organization of this size conducts business.”
City Council interviewed five candidates earlier this year, narrowing the field to two in May 2021. “Mr. Tedder, in my opinion, understands the unique concerns we have as a community,” said Boulder City Mayor Kiernan McManus. “Mr. Tedder has a well-rounded background that will benefit Boulder City residents and our City government, especially in historic preservation and community development. I look forward to working with him.”
Mr. Tedder is a graduate of Emporia State University and holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Wichita State University. Southern Nevada has been on his radar for some time. “Boulder City captured my interest as my wife Amber and I visited Hoover Dam a few years ago,” Mr. Tedder said. “It is the type of city we’d love to make our home - a premier, well-planned, family-friendly community with a small-town feel. The recreational opportunities and benefits of the metropolitan area nearby make it an excellent location.”
As part of Mr. Tedder’s contract, he must live in Boulder City, with a population of 16,000 residents (a requirement in the City Charter). “We’re looking forward to purchasing a home here and becoming a part of this wonderful community,” Mr. Tedder said. “Highly involved residents, the professional city staff and the general welcome we received were key factors when looking to make Boulder City our home. I’m an extremely approachable person and look forward to hearing feedback from residents.”
Since October 2020, Michael Mays filled the role of Acting City Manager, while also assuming the duties of his position as Community Development Director. “I appreciate the hard work Michael has done over the past ten months – many long days and weekends,” said Boulder City Councilwoman/Mayor pro tem Claudia Bridges. “Changes in leadership can be difficult, but even more challenging during a pandemic. He handled the role well and I truly appreciate his dedication and commitment to the people of Boulder City.”
