City of Boulder issued the following announcement on August 13.
Boulder City’s Acting City Clerk was unanimously approved by City Council this week to take the role of City Clerk. Tami McKay had been serving in the role since March. Ms. McKay worked in various roles in the City starting in 1995 and was promoted to Deputy City Clerk for Boulder City in December 2010. Ms. McKay grew up in Boulder City and graduated from Boulder City High School.
The City Clerk is responsible for preparing meeting agendas and minutes; maintaining records of meetings; informing residents of Council and Commission actions; and supervising City elections. The Clerk reports to City Council on policy matters and works with the City Manager regarding daily operations.
The City Clerk recruitment was posted on all the City’s social media platforms and advertised nationally in industry publications/websites. The role requires someone who has vast knowledge of Nevada Revised Statutes regarding elections and public records. The City received 17 applications and in May, four applicants were interviewed. Ms. McKay received the most points in her interview and Council moved to direct staff to start contract negotiations with her.
“I’d personally like to say thank you and how grateful I am to the Mayor and the City Council for this opportunity,” McKay told the Council after their 4-0 vote (one council member absent). “I’ve been working in and representing Boulder City for a long time,” she said at the council meeting. “I will continue to display professionalism, dedication and commitment, and I will work diligently to communicate effectively with the Council.”
The contract calls for Ms. McKay to receive an annual evaluation in or around March, at which time she would be eligible for annual merit increases of up to to 6 percent.
“We look forward to having you in that position and all the work you’ve already been doing as the Acting City Clerk,” Mayor McManus said to Ms. McKay after the appointment.
In her tenure, Ms. McKay is a member of a number of organizations, including:
- Nevada Municipal Clerks Association, Vice President
- International Institute of Municipal Clerks
- Association of Records Managers and Administrators
- National Association of Parliamentarians
