Clark County is inviting the public to submit their artistic responses to the 1 October Memorial gallery.
Those interested in submitting artwork can do so in the form of poems, drawings, stories, songs, thoughts, conceptual designs, video and other mediums that the project team will consider when reviewing memorial proposals; a news release from the Clark County government said.
“We are excited about this process phase and to engage the impacted community further,” Tennille Pereira, 1 October Memorial Committee chairwoman, said in the release. “It’s an innovative approach designed specifically for our community. The gallery offers healing through our shared experiences and I am certain will be a beneficial source of insights, perspectives and ideas for our design team finalists.”
All submitted artwork is reviewed by county staff and included in the gallery unless the artist opts out, the release said.
“As a librarian, I love the idea of archiving and record-keeping; holding onto history in a city like ours that continues to reinvent itself is so important,” Pereira said in the release. “It seems that this 1 October Memorial will archive that day and the months and years that followed. It is also an archive of the city's pain and how we were shattered and then how we tried to put one another back together.”
