September is National Preparedness Month and Clark County leaders are reminding citizens to be prepared for any emergency.
According to a news release issued by the county, the biggest threats to the area are wildfires, flooding, communicable disease, power outages and heat.
Clark County Fire Department Deputy Chief Billy Samuels, who runs the county’s Emergency Management Division, said this is the perfect time for residents to access what items they could use in the event of a disaster.
“Preparedness month is a good time of year to think about what you and your family’s needs may be in the event of an emergency,” Samuels said in the release.
The county recently wrapped up an 11-question survey concerning area emergencies to refresh its Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.
“Fires, floods and other emergencies are unpredictable by nature, but there are some basic steps everyone can take to help themselves in an emergency situation,” Samuels said.
Interested parties can download the free Southern Nevada Community Preparedness App to properly prepare for any hazards that may happen. The app will provide users with resources, safety tips, weather alerts and a plan for families to create supply kits.
