In anticipation of near-record-high temperatures, the City of Henderson is enhancing its efforts to safeguard vulnerable residents during the current excessive heat warning issued by the National Weather Service.
Public Response Officers will be actively canvassing public areas throughout the week, reaching out to individuals in parks, trails, recreation centers, open spaces, and storm channels. They aim to assist those experiencing distress due to extreme heat.
The officers will offer water, supplies, bus passes to cooling stations, and harm-reduction kits to ensure that vulnerable individuals have access to essential resources and safe havens during peak heat hours.
Residents are urged to take precautions such as staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water even if they do not feel thirsty; avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day; wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing; never leaving children or pets unattended in vehicles; and checking on elderly neighbors and relatives who may need additional assistance.
The city is also activating two daytime cooling stations starting today through July 9 (excluding July 4) at the following locations:
Downtown Recreation Center
50 E. Van Wagenen Road
Henderson, NV 89009
Phone: 702-267-4040
Downtown Senior Center (age 50+)
27 E. Texas Avenue
Henderson, NV 89015
Phone: 702-267-4150
