Nevada State College is helping new Afghan refugees find housing in the Nevada area, with the assistance of the state government and various community agencies.
Nevada State College joined with Clark County to secure federal funding and local refugee resettlement agencies to explore temporary and permanent housing for Afghan families, KTNV reported.
"Thanks to this new initiative, Afghan families will be temporarily housed in @NevadaState student housing facilities, while permanent housing is secured," Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak said in a post to his official Twitter account Jan. 14. "This state, local, & community partnership is a testament to Nevada's commitment to continue to be a welcoming state for all."
Sisolak's Office for New Americans is one of numerous groups partnering with Nevada State College to aid in resettling refugees in Nevada. When housing became a problem for them, the African Community Center stepped in to help. The African Community Center has helped 4,000 refugees get settled over the years, according to KTNV.
The college wants other people in the community to acknowledge the privacy of the refugees as they get settled, KTNV reported. They want their campus to be "a safe haven for all."
