Motorists should be aware that Clark County School District’s (CCSD) Summer Acceleration Program will be utilizing school zones at local schools to help students who attend the program safely navigate streets.

“For many of our students, school is not out for the summer so please be sure to exercise additional caution as you drive through school zones and crosswalks and drive the school speed limits posted and when the school flashers are activated,” Clark County Commission Chairman Jim Gibson said in a county news release

According to a press release shared by the University of Nevada, Reno, school zones are located at area schools this summer to help and teach students how to safely cross streets while attending Clark County School District's Summer Acceleration Program.

“As our children continue to expand their academic and social opportunities this summer, drivers need to be even more aware of their presence to ensure pedestrian safety remains top of mind," Gibson said.

The summer school period will last from Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 17 and Thursday, June 23 through Tuesday, July 19. During this period, drivers will need to be aware of children in the area as they follow signals and signage.

All Clark County schools began summer classes May 31 for five days a week for six hours.

Middle and high school students also have the option of going to 10 high schools in CCSD for credit recovery options and first-time course enrollment, according to the county.

The release reported that the CCSD program was established to facilitate student learning and the overall well-being of the students.

Those interested in the program can go to the CCSD website to find more information.
