Clark County and the 1 October Monument Committee are seeking feedback on a memorial project that honors victims and first responders who were killed or responded to outdoor shooting that happened on Oct. 1, 2017.

According to news release shared by the Clark County government, the joint effort by the county and the committee for the memorial will also highlight the bravery and compassion of the city.

“As a result of the hard work of our 1 October Memorial Committee members, we have reached a significant milestone in our efforts to build a lasting memorial for our community,” said Clark County Commission Chairman Jim Gibson in the release, whose district includes the concert site.

The selection process includes a “Call for Creative Expressions” that allows artists not associated with design teams to provide ideas through a website application

According to Gibson: “A tremendous amount of time, effort and thought went into the pathways for participation to ensure that anyone who has an idea for the memorial can be seen and heard – whether you are a professional artist or not or you are an architect or engineer with experience building world-class projects. We hope to hear from you through this process.”

“Public engagement has been a big part of this process from the start. Our goal is to build a memorial that pays tribute to all those impacted by the events of that tragic night and recognizes the resiliency and compassion of our community,” said Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick.
