Congresswoman Susie Lee, representing Nevada’s 3rd district since 2019, recently took to social media to express her concerns regarding Elon Musk's proposed workforce reductions at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Lee has been vocal about issues affecting veterans and public lands in Southern Nevada.
On March 5, 2025, Congresswoman Lee criticized Elon Musk for his plans to lay off a significant number of VA workers. She stated, "It’s insulting for Elon Musk to categorize America’s veterans as waste. His plan to fire 80,000 VA workers is a slap in the face to every single veteran who earned and deserves healthcare."
Continuing her criticism on the same day, Lee highlighted potential negative impacts on veterans' healthcare services due to understaffing. She tweeted, "The VA is already significantly understaffed and Musk’s layoffs will lead to longer wait times and worse care for our veterans. Democrats and Republicans worked together to get the PACT Act signed into law to expand healthcare for veterans, but we can’t do that with Musk and…"
On March 7, 2025, Lee shifted her focus towards public land management in Southern Nevada. Addressing possible delays at Lake Mead during summer due to layoffs, she warned constituents by saying: "Pay attention. If you go to Lake Mead this summer and are waiting in line for hours, you’ll have this Administration and their indiscriminate layoffs to blame. Southern NV loves our public lands and the people who care for them."
