A solar farm construction site in Boulder City tallied up over $200,000 in fines in the last 365 days after several air quality violations.

Rosendin Electric allegedly failed to control dust during construction of an approximate 1,000-acre solar farm near Interstate 11 and has received approximately $220,000 in fines since April. The company has not contested seven of eight fines that they've received, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“ICYMI: A company building a solar farm in Boulder City has failed repeatedly to control its dust, resulting in dozens of complaints and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines," Blake Apgar said in a Nov. 22 tweet. "The county says the company is neglecting its duty to protect air quality.”

Rosendin is putting its business interests ahead of complying with air-quality standards, according to the county, the Review-Journal reported.

“Well, from our perspective, they responded by continuing to be out of compliance and making business decisions that are based on how quickly they can get the project done, as opposed to implementing the best practices that are required in our air quality regulations,” Marci Henson, director of Clark County’s department of environment and sustainability, told the Review-Journal.

Rosendin has made a public statement since being fined.

“The health and safety of the residents in Clark County are extremely important to Rosendin, and we understand that proper dust control is crucial, particularly in a desert-living environment,” the company said, according to the Review-Journal. “Rosendin is dedicated to monitoring and managing dust control on the Townsite Solar project.”
