Commissioner Justin Jones hosted a town hall gathering on Thursday to receive feedback on a state law, Assembly Bill 363 (AB363), that calls for Clark County to permit short-term rentals like VRBO and Airbnb in the community.
The workshop was held from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. at Desert Breeze Community Center, 8275 Spring Mountain Rd., in the southern portion of Las Vegas, a Clark County news release said.
"Short-term rentals have been illegal in unincorporated Clark County," Jones said in the release. "That all changes this July, when we must have an ordinance in place regulating them. It's important for us to receive public feedback so that we have a good understanding of how far residents want us to go in regulating them."
Commissioners Tick Segerblom and Ross Miller have already conducted similar meetings in the past, with more public meetings anticipated, based on responses received from 5,811 people to a survey on the matter, the release said.
"Staff next will draft an ordinance to regulate short-term rentals for presentation to the Clark County Commission," the release said. "AB363 establishes some limits as part of the mandate, including minimum-distance separation between short-term rentals, proximity to resort hotels, limits on the number of occupants and number of permits a person may hold."
With many residents eager to provide feedback, Clark County leaders announced they can do so through email at STRComment@ClarkCountyNV.gov. They can also receive updates about the proposed law at ClarkCountyNV.gov/subscribe.
