It shouldn’t be long before no appointment will be needed at the new drive-thru COVID-19 testing site in the parking lot of the Fiesta Henderson Casino, county officials announced.

“Seeking a COVID test today? The Fiesta Henderson site is open,” Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak posted on his Twitter account. “These sites are a prime example of a federal, State and local partnership aimed at meeting the needs of our community. Thank you to those who helped make it happen.”

Clark County’s latest mass testing site in the Southern Nevada Health District has been requiring appointments since it opened Jan 15, FOX5 reported. But it has the capacity to handle a higher demand.

“Right now, we’re doing appointments only,” Clark County Fire Chief and Emergency Manager Billy Samuels said in an interview with FOX5. “Obviously, we can be flexible moving forward once we see what traffic is like.”

The drive-thru site will operate Saturday through Wednesday, from noon to 8 p.m. The Fiesta Henderson site anticipated handling approximately 500 appointments per day initially, but it had 1,200 appointments booked on its first day. There is still plenty of room for more, though. Samuels said ultimately the site is expected to administer up to 4,000 tests per day.

Fiesta Henderson, along with sites at Texas Station and Sam Boyd Stadium, are federally funded and will operate for three weeks. The Sam Boy Stadium site, a relocation from University of Nevada, Las Vegas’s Paradise parking lot, operates on a first-come-first-served basis, Samuels said.
